Developing a high-performance font storage engine for East Asian languages to enable efficient storage, retrieval, and rendering of large character sets.

East Asian languages such as Chinese, Japanese, and Korean contain significantly larger character sets than most alphabet-based languages, making efficient storage and retrieval of font data an important technical challenge for digital publishing and rendering systems.

The Font Storage Engine was developed to provide an efficient mechanism for storing and managing large font datasets while supporting high-performance retrieval and rendering. The solution focused on optimizing how font information was organised and accessed, enabling applications to work efficiently with complex multilingual character sets.

At Bitstream, I contributed to the development of the font storage engine by designing and implementing software components using C and C++. Working on this project strengthened my understanding of systems programming, performance-oriented software development, and efficient data management techniques.

Although this was an early stage in my professional career, the project provided valuable experience in developing software for specialised domains and established a strong foundation in C/C++ programming that continued to benefit me throughout my career.
