Developing a planning and job scheduling system that streamlines operations across multiple departments within a printing organization.
Large printing organizations coordinate work across multiple departments, including planning, scheduling, production, customer support, stores, dispatch, procurement, purchasing, outsourcing, accounts, and personnel. Managing these interconnected business processes efficiently requires a centralized system capable of coordinating activities across the organization.
The Planning and Automatic Job Scheduler was developed to support end-to-end planning and job scheduling for the printing industry. The solution consisted of twelve functional consoles and a central control server that together enabled different business departments to collaborate through a unified enterprise application.
As a Software Engineer, I was responsible for leading the requirement gathering, design, and development activities for the Inventory module. I also developed and tested the Stores Manager daemon, contributed to the redesign and implementation of the Job Validation module, and developed a file compression and decompression utility that optimized the transfer of large ASCII files between various application consoles and the central control server. In addition, I participated in product maintenance and debugging activities to ensure the reliability of the solution.
This project marked the beginning of my professional career and provided valuable experience across the complete software development lifecycle, including customer interaction, solution design, implementation, testing, and enterprise application development.
